New Drapes - what a difference!

Today we went to a drape shop and chose new drapes for our rental. We chose the darkening type so guests could sleep in after a late night.  The ready-made ones were inexpensive but too long so they said that we should go to Hakuyosha. We drove there and ordered them to cut to size. It will take two weeks to get done. We hung one temporarily in the condo and were pleased that it added a new level of quality to the room. 

今日はカーテンを見に行って決めてきました。お客様が夜遅くなっても、ゆっくり朝寝坊できるように、遮光カーテンを選びました。既製品で十分OK、値段も高くなく少しだけ丈が長かったため、白洋舎に行って短くしてもらうように勧められ、早速 白洋舎へドライブして注文。出来上がるのは2週間後です。

1枚のカーテンがどんなふうになるのか実験もしてみました。部屋にかけてみると、室内がニューレベルに、、、嬉し~い。

Still Shopping

Shopping for the new vacation rental, it is almost ready to rent!  Furniture, light fixtures, kitchen stuff.....we still have to pick the fabric and order the drapes.

バケーションレンタル用の買い物、、、だんだん揃ってきましたよ。家具、照明器具、台所用品など、あとはカーテン生地を見に行って注文しなくては。

Furnishing

We are looking for a dinette for the studio. It's not easy to find.

It is the same shopping for lighting; there are many displayed in the showroom but it isn't easy to come across one that is practical and suits the room.

家具屋を数件回りましたが、スタジオにちょうど良いミニサイズのダイニングセットがなかなかありません。照明も同様、ショールームにはたくさん飾られてありますが、実用的でお部屋に合うのを見つけるのは大変で~す。

This is a surf shop next to our new rental where many surfers gather; more people than usual are there  because it is Friday night.

Annual meeting at Aloha Towers

We had an annual meeting at Aloha towers with dinner today.

Dinner was pretty good, many kinds of food; Japanese, Thai, Hawaiian, desert, etc.

There are many elderly people living in this building. They love this place.

今日はALOHA TOWERSで夕食付のアニュアルミーティングがありました。いろいろな種類の食べ物が、、、 巻き寿司、タイ料理、ハワイアン、果物、デザートなど。たくさんの年配者がこのビルには住んでいて、皆さんここが大好きとのことです。

Tired

We have been doing a lot of shopping for our vacation rentals in the last few days to get them ready to rent. It has made me a bit tired. I really need a man's help when I buy a large and heavy products; I need muscle AND decision power. When you cannot make a decision, you better buy it. You can return it later. Shop with less stress!

この数日は、バケーションレンタルの買い物へあちこちへ出かけて、ちょっと疲れ気味です。大きな重いものを買うときは、やはり男の人がいないと全く無理、筋力と決断力が必要なんです。決められないときには、まず買うことしています。後で返品すればよいのですから。そうすると買い物も楽になりま~す。

Blue Hawaii

Walking through the hotel lobby, there is the blue ocean and Waikiki beach. I realise once again how beautiful it is!

ホテル内を通り抜けると、そこには真っ青な海が、、、ここはワイキキビーチ！ 思わず感動する。

Mango tree in Waikiki

There is a mango tree in Waikiki where I live. It is too young to pick now and it will be ready in summer. You can usually only harvest mango every other year.

ワイキキにもマンゴーがあります。それも私の住んでいるコンドに、、、。まだ実は小さいですが、夏には食べられそうです。マンゴーは豊作と不作を繰り返すため、通常2年に1度しか獲れないんですよ。

Our friend on the Big Island told us that it is best to take this Chinese medicine when you start having a cold. it works!

ハワイ島の友人から教えてもらったこの漢方薬、風邪のひきはじめには、すごく効くんですよ!

Dim Sum at Mei Sum

My friend recommend that Mei Sum is the best for dim sum.

We just happened to be Chinatown to get Chinese medication so we went there to have lunch.

We realised that we have been there before.  The food is fine and it has a clean atmosphere.

友人たちは、飲茶に行くならメイサムと言っていました。

たまたま漢方の風邪薬を買いにチャイナタウンへ行ったので、そのお店で飲茶ランチ。

あれ〜〜ここは以前にも来たことがありましたよ。 美味しくて店内も清潔です。

 

The first offer often is the best

This is a unit we really wanted 2 years ago. We made a offer and it was the first good offer but we were rejected by the seller. The seller didn't want to negotiate at all because the buyer (my husband) was a real estate broker. We didn't want to move ahead with such a silly seller anyway. 7 months later we found out that it was sold way lower than our offer. We hear that sometimes the first offer is the best offer. .. .  . The present owner did such a great remodeling job; it is fantastic.

このユニットは2年前、私たちがバケーションレンタルに、とても欲しかったお部屋です。誰よりも早く、提示価格に近い金額で購入の申し込みをしましたが、売手は、買手の私の夫が不動産ブローカーという理由で、価格の交渉は認めないと言ってきました。私たちも、そんなバカバカしい事を言う売手から買うのはごめんと、結局それまでとなってしまった物件です。

それから7ヵ月が経ち、驚くほど安い価格で売却されたと知りました。一番初めの申し込みが、売主にとって1番良い条件(最高値)だったと言う話をよく耳にします、、、。現在の所有者は、素晴らしいセンスで改装されています。

Decorating the room

I  found a very interesting decoration today. 

I was looking for something for the wall above the bed and I found this. We would like to keep as much furniture as possible from the previous owner and use it like a canvas to 'paint' on it to create a unique atomosphere. Oh well we can't take too much time to enjoy it. We must rent it out as soon as possible.

今日こんなのものを見つけました。ベッドの上の壁に飾るものを探してたのですが、どうかしら？  前の所有者がバケーションレンタルしていたときの家具をなるだけ使って、キャンバスの上に色を重ねる感じで、、、、今までとは違う雰囲気を作りたいと思います。なーんて、あまり呑気なことは言ってられません。早くできあがらせて、レンタルしなくては、、、。
