We had fireworks two nights in a row from in front of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki.

Open House at Kahala

Today we had an open house at an incredible place that was built by an electrical contractor. It had over 300 light fixtures, high end sound system, butterfly granite counter tops, solar hot water for the salt water swimming pool; a great home for both indoor and outdoor entertainment.

Yay! New desk!!!

I was looking foward to my desk and it finally arrived today. It changed the whole image of the room and I am very happy. Now I can put more enerygy into my work.

Ritz Carlton Waikiki

We went to the model room for the new Ritz Carlton condo development that is being built in Waikiki. This will be a very large project. There are still units available but many have already sold even though it will be two years before people can start moving it.

We went to an Open House at Aloha Towers today. Although the new Ritz Carlton building willl be where the crane is in this photo, this unit will still have an ocean view when it is finished. It was nicely staged and very clean and a great location.

First movie night in Honolulu

かWe went to the movie theater last night for the first time in Honolulu. We saw the new Planet of The Apes movie. We ordered the smallest popcorn; they jammed so much in there and it was just the right amount for the two of us. I think the quality of the popcorn seems to be better because it did not get caught in my throat and I did not get a stomach ache like I used to. It was a huge screen and the surround sound system was fantastic. The content of the story was very common; bad guy, good guy, war. I wish there was more of a surprise, or a twist, to make it more interesting. 

The theatre is located where many new condo buildings are going up in Kakaako; you can see the crane in the photo below. The work has already started.

ワイキキから一番近い映画館、ワードセンターに ”猿の惑星”を見にいってきました。私たちがホノルルで映画を見るのは始めてです。

ポップコーンの一番小さいのをオーダーしたのですが、しっかり詰めるので、ふたりで食べて丁度良い量です。トウモロコシが改良されたのか、喉も胃の調子も良好でした。
巨大スクリーン、音響効果、、、迫力がありますが、映画の内容は、ありきたりで、出てくるのは善人と悪人、そして戦争、、、。もっとサプライズや、ねじれがあったほうが、おもしろいと思うのですが、、、。

この映画館は、今後たくさんのコンドミニアムが建設されるカカアコにあります。写真中パームツリーの向こうにはクレーンが見えますが、その工事はもう始まっています。

Blue and green

After sitting in the air conditioned office at work for a while I get cold so I go up to the outside lanai on the 3rd flow to warm up. The view is breathtaking up there! There are so many beautiful colors in Hawaii: blue skies, green grass and trees, the turquiose ocean. I never get tired of it!

オフィスの中にしばらくいると、冷房が効いているため、気がつかないうちに体が冷えてしまいます。それで時々三階のベランダで日向ぼっこ。 アラワイゴルフ場の彼方には、ワイキキのビルが見渡せ、思わずため息がでてしまいます。ハワイには、綺麗な色がたくさん、、、青い空、グリーンの芝生に鬱蒼とした木々、ターコイズブルーの海（青緑色）、、、、毎日見ても見飽きません。

Big Island House

We just put this house on the market about one week ago. There are 3 couples from the mainland that found the house on the internet and are interested in buying it. One couple came the day before yesterday and they made an offer after looking at many other properties. We didn't want to accept an offer before they actually saw the property so now we are relieved.

Kathmandu

A story from a friend on The Big Island. She just came back from Kathmandu. She got food poisoning. The only thing she could eat was toast! She used to have high blood pressure and Cholestorol but since she came back everything is normal and she stopped taking medication. She had to walk everywhere in Kathmandu; maybe that is what cured her. 

We have a lot of material things and many of us need more exercise. Maybe living in a thirld world country is more healthy? I was in Kathmandu many years ago and I would describe it like a Lost World. 

ハワイ島の友人の話、、、、最近カトマンズへいって、食中毒になり、しばらくトーストしか食べられない状態が続きました。その後ハワイに帰ってきたら、血圧もコレステロール値も正常になっていたというのです。以前は数値が高いため薬を飲んでいたのです。カトマンズ市内ではどこへ行くにも歩かなくてはならないので、それが効いたのでしょう。
物に満たされ、運動不足の私たち、、、たまには物のない不自由な世界に行くのも良いのかも。
カトマンズへ行ったことがありますが、、、”失われた世界” のような街でした。

Pacific Business News article

I found out today that while I was in Japan my company published an article about me in Pacific Business News. It made me think that as one gets older and has accumulated experience and wisdom, that it becomes a joy to share it with others to make their lives better. It makes me want to say "Thank You" to them for giving me the opportunity to put my experience to a good use.

Waikiki Neighborhood Board meeting

Once a month there is a meeting of the Waikiki Neighborhood Board to discuss issues affecting the people that live here. Tonight's subject there was a presentation of the City and State's new program to try to help the homeless people.

I was surprised to learn that there are homeless families where family members work jobs but still cannot afford housing.

One resident spoke and told us that he has been homeless for many years and wanted to commit suicide. He is now getting assistance and pulling his life together. He became homeless when he found his best friend with his wife and could not handle it. He started using drugs and he wound up on the street.

A woman spoke about being homeless after getting out of the military, one many others. She is now taking medication and is getting help and doing better.

毎月一回、ワイキキネイバーフッドボードが開かれます。今日のテーマは、ワイキキで生活しているホームレスの人たちを、ハワイ州と市で、どのように保護していくか、、、。ほとんどの人たちはメンタルの問題があります。

驚いたのは、仕事をしていて子供がいる人も、家賃が高いために、家族揃ってホームレスになっていくことでした。

長年ホームレスだったシングルファーザーが、どうしてホームレスになったか、そのいきさつを語ってくれました。自殺も何度も考えたそうです。彼の親友と彼の奥さんが深い関係になっているのを知った時、どうしようも無くなりドラッグに溺れ、ホームレスになったとのことでした。今は保護を受け、その生活からぬけだしています。

その他、元軍人も精神の病に犯されホームレスになっていくと、元軍人女性ホームレスが語り、やはり保護をうけて、精神科からの薬で良くなっていったそうです。

It Can't Be Helped

Shopping today for vacation rental furniture. This looked almost perfect but it is a little too wide. We're on a small island in the middle of the Pacific and I am so picky. It cannot be helped!

Independence Day

Today was the American Independence Day. The sunset changed from a pastel purpel to pink and all the buildings became pink, too. It was so mesmerizing that I just stared at it. There were many boats parked to see the fireworks. 

今日はアメリカの独立記念日。夕焼けが藤色からピンク色へ、、、回りのビルも全てピンク、、、ピンクの世界、、、しばらく見惚れていました。

夜に打ち上げられる花火を海から見ようと、たくさんのボートがワイキキに集まってきていました。

Feeling Good

This is the view from the unit that our client will close on in a few days. The blue sky, Diamond Head view, great amenities, being close to a great school and helping a first time homebuyer makes me feel so good. We live in Waikiki and are surrounded by buildings. This place is on the other side of the Ala Wai Canal and has more space.
